Read articles #8 and #11 in your reading packet:
Both of these are famous papers in AI and cognitive science. The first one is a philosophical article that discusses the question of how symbols might acquire meaning in symbolic and connectionist (neural network) systems. The second one describes experiments in which a recurrent neural network learns to represent simple sentences, similar to the RAAM-based work we discussed in class.
Write a 1-2 page reaction to these articles for Tuesday, and be prepared to discuss the ideas in class.
